Student Ministry (6-12)
Our student ministry team is passionate about helping middle and high school students deepen their walk with Christ and actively participate in God’s mission with the broader church.
Students are faced with daily decisions that can sometimes impact the rest of their lives. As students begin to make decisions and mature in life, our student ministry team at West Jackson walks alongside of them in life. We share the Gospel, provide community, and help them understand that they can live their life with purpose in God’s mission. This all happens in weekly and special events including energetic times of worship, weekend retreats, and engaging small groups where we focus on God’s Word and learn to live it out in our daily lives.

Josh Ward, Student Pastor
Josh was born and raised in West Tennessee. He began attending West Jackson Baptist Church with his family in 1999, where he was baptized in first grade. In middle and high school, he was heavily involved in the student ministry when Pastor Andy was the student pastor. Josh felt a call to ministry as a junior in high school while on a mission trip in Guatemala with other West Jackson students.
He received his Bachelor of Arts in Christian Education with a Youth Ministry Certificate from Wheaton College in Wheaton, IL. After graduation, he served as the Junior High Pastor for three years at the Church at BattleCreek in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Josh and his wife, Kelsey, were married in Jackson in September of 2016.
Josh has a heart for the local church, and for helping students take their next step in their relationship with Jesus Christ. His passion for students revolves around them understanding more about who God is, and what God has called them to do. He has a vision for connecting students with godly adult volunteers who can disciple those students into followers of Christ. His goal for student ministry is to train students to go out into the world to reach others for Christ, and to fall in love with serving God and the local church.
