There is a lot happening over the next several weeks at West Jackson! Read the following updates and mark your calendars as we begin the new year together.
Sunday Worship + Wednesdays @ West Jackson
Our normal worship schedule resumed this past Sunday, January 8th, with Worship led by choir & orchestra at 8:45a, Bible Study for all ages at 10:00a, and Worship led by guitar & band at 11:15a. We hope you were able to join us with the winter weather we’ve had over the past few days! If not, you can hear Sunday’s sermon on our mobile app (find it in the ‘Standalone Sermons’ sermon series).
Wednesday nights also began this past Wednesday, January 4th. Please note that in January our Junior and Senior High students will be having dinner in the Courts from 6:00-6:30pm, with combined worship from 6:30-7:30pm in the Loft. We will resume our normal Wednesday student schedule in February. Bible Studies for men and women will not begin until February 1st.
Finally, keep in mind that on Sunday January 29th, we will be in one service beginning at 9:00am. There will be no Sunday School that morning as we come together for our annual FOCUS 2017 conference (read more below). Childcare will be provided for infants through pre-K during the morning, however.
Coffee and Conversations: Telling The Baptist Back Story
Where you are from matters – it gives insight to who you are and why you do what you do. Join us beginning this week for two Sunday nights in a row on January 15th and 22nd in the Fellowship Hall as we discover who we are as Baptists. Dr. Nathan Finn, dean of the School of Theology and Missions at Union University, will be leading the conversation for us. He is most recently the co-author of The Baptist Story: From English Sect to Global Movement. We will start at 6pm and have coffee and cookies from DO Dah’s ready for you. Childcare will be provided.
FOCUS 2017 (January 29)
FOCUS is our annual Sunday conference zooming in on a specific area of discipleship and will happen on Sunday January 29th at 9:00a. This year we are welcoming Greg Koukl, the founder of Stand to Reason, a ministry that equips Christians to explain and defend Christian beliefs and values to people who are skeptical. On Sunday morning he will give us tools to engage others in Gospel conversations. That evening he will spend time answering questions that appear to challenge the Christian faith. You won’t want to miss this opportunity!
Women’s Retreat: “Happy New Year In Christ” (January 27-28)
We want to invite all women at West Jackson to join us for our annual Women’s Retreat this month from Friday January 27th – Saturday the 28th. Our retreat will be on our campus at West Jackson and include great teaching from Lisa Clements, author and Bible teacher, as well as time to spend together and enjoy special New Year’s themed activities. Women can register online today or stop by the Connection Center tonight or on Sundays.
Family Night @ The Courts
Mark your calendars now for Family Night @ The Courts on Sunday February 5th when we will enjoy a church-wide chili cook off as well as watch football and more as a church. Kids will be able to play in the Courts. More details coming soon!
Date Night @ Grant Center (Union University)
Last year’s Date Night @ Snyder Barn was a wonderful time of good food and fun to encourage married couples at the conclusion of our Unexpected Marriage sermon series. This year, we will be hosting another Date Night (with childcare provided) on February 11th at Union University’s Grant Center. Look for more information, including an opportunity to buy tickets, in the next few weeks.
Pray for All Star Basketball
All Star Basketball practices began in December, and this year we have 400+ children from our church and the Jackson area involved! More than 80 coaches will be leading our 40 teams each week in practice, developing relationships, and bringing the Gospel to them through devotionals. Please be praying for this season and the outreach that will happen through All Star Basketball. Games will begin next Thursday, January 12th at the Courts. E-mail Chuck Rhea today to learn more and help with All Star Basketball this season.
